For more information email yiboardchair@gmail.com or call NJOP at 800-44-HEBREW.
This series, sponsored by NJOP*, is geared toward those who want to improve their Hebrew reading and comprehension skills and learn more about the prayers said daily, as well as on Shabbat, High Holidays, and Passover. YIB is offering the course in an effort to inspire Brookline/Brighton’s Jews to become more involved in Jewish life.
For many Jews, the inability to read Hebrew and understand the synagogue services is a barrier to active participation in Jewish life. By teaching them to read Hebrew and making them feel comfortable in synagogues, NJOP hopes to open the door to Jewish growth and commitment for thousands of Jews.
The Hebrew Reading Crash Course Level II is designed to strengthen the participants’ skills in reading the different prayers and enhance understanding of the ideas and concepts behind those prayers. This course will make one's experience at YIB (or any synagogue) more stimulating and meaningful and will help one feel more comfortable at services. Additionally, this series broadens the Hebrew vocabulary of participants through the study of prayer terminology and increases familiarity with the rituals and tunes used in those prayers.
NJOP was established in 1987 by Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald, and has become one of the world’s largest and most successful Jewish outreach organizations. NJOP offers free programs at more than 5,154** locations across North America and in 41** countries worldwide. Through programs such as Shabbat Across America and Canada and Read Hebrew America and Canada, NJOP has successfully reached more than 1,709,568** North American Jews, and engaged them in Jewish life.
