The Young Israel of Brookline Singles is a vibrant and dynamic group of students and professionals who seek to provide opportunities for friendship, companionship and long-term commitment leading to marriage. Our activities are organized within a halachic framework, consistent with Torah values. Occasional Shabbatonim are organized, in addition to frequent dinners, parties, and outdoor activities.

Young Israel singles are actively involved in all aspects of shul leadership and programming. We encourage our members to remember to introduce men and women, as there is no greater mitzvah than to be mezaveg zivugim (match couples). Our kehilla families routinely invite single men and women to their homes for Shabbat meals.

An exciting new program under the auspices of the Chevrat Chesed, "Shidduch Connection", was introduced to facilitate and support the one-on-one introduction of marriage-minded single members of our community.

Beyond traditional matchmaking, we plan to integrate the concept of helping singles meet others into the very fabric of our culture, just as we do with Chevrat Chesed. A core team of 12 members, representing different segments of the community, meet on a monthly basis to volunteer their time to connect single members with other singles from other communities. The process includes completing a written profile and a phone or in-person interview. We have made contact with Shidduch Committees in Baltimore, Monsey and Riverdale in order to better expand our network of referrals. For more information, please contact Mindy Gewirtz, directly.

Singles activities are announced in the weekly Kesher on the YI Website, through our Singles e-mail or snail list, through direct mail fliers or on our Singles Message Board. If you would like to be added to these lists, fill out the form, or contact the shul office.

Our style of governance is participatory and inclusionary, so we encourage your involvement at all levels!
