We understand that time is precious, and often Shabbat is the only time you have to be with us. We welcome you to participate at whatever level you are able. Whether you come for Shabbat services, join a shiur, become active in Sisterhood, Chevrat Chesed or one of the many other options, we are always open to the participation of new members and welcome new ideas. We have found that people who participate in shul activities often have an easier time integrating into the community.
We welcome you to YIB, the Young Israel of Brookline - to become part of our creative and dynamic kehilla, an inclusive and diverse mishpacha- family. Whatever your age, level of observance, marital and personal-family status, whether you are here for several years for school or longer, we at YIB welcome you into our extended family. Our vision is for you to experience our Young Israel kehilla as your personal spiritual, learning and caring community.
Our mission to achieve our vision is to integrate and engage you in our kehilla from the moment you enter our doors. To that end, we invite you to participate in an inspiring spiritual experience during our tefillot. Join us for one of our two daily shacharit and mincha/ma'ariv minyanim as well as our Shabbat minyanim. Of special note are our tefillot during yamim noraim with our ba'al musaf Avrami Flam. Encourage your children ages 3-12 to join their voices with our kehilla in our Shabbat youth programs as well as to visit with me on the bima for a Shabbat shalom and a piece of candy.
We also invite you to experience our adult learning community first hand. Our inviting Beit Midrash offers Boston's most complete non-university Hebrew and English Judaica library. It is a warm and welcoming setting in which to attend any of the Torah learning experiences offered through our HaMakor Torah Institute.
Our caring community provides a kehilla of caring and connection, bain adam l'chaveiro, for our children and youth, our singles and couples, our families and our seniors. We have youth programs, an active Singles Chevra, new programs for young couples, a Sisterhood program of activities for YIB women, innovative learning opportunities for women, and many chesed opportunities. Through Sisterhood's Chevrat Chesed you can strengthen our caring community by visiting the home-bound, addressing shiva needs, providing assistance to families with newborns, and creating new shidduchim. Through the Young Israel Charity Fund, which is financed by the Beit Midrash pushka and public shul appeals, you can provide financial assistance, primarily to local families, in a confidential and dignified manner.
In the coming weeks and months you will receive an invitation from Mindy and me to our sukkah for a Yom Tov Tea to meet other new members. As new members, you will also be invited to other members homes for Shabbat and Yom Tov dinners. We hope you take the opportunity to participate in these special events. If you are single and interested in meeting others, Mindy and I are pleased to meet with you to learn how we can help you make connections. Also, see our information about our Shidduch Connection.
We have only offered a small snapshot of our Young Israel to entice you to learn more about us, and enjoy the many privileges of belonging to our kehilla. This website will give you a roadmap of our kehilla and our community to help you more quickly integrate into our family. We want to be as helpful as we can as you begin your new life as a member of our YIB kehilla-family and I look forward to a follow-up phone or in-person conversation with each of you.
