Rabbi David Hellman became the Rabbi of the Young Israel of Brookline in August 2014. He was previously on the rabbinic staff of the Riverdale Jewish Center (RJC) in New York for two years, following a rabbinic internship at Congregation Ahavas Achim in Highland Park, New Jersey.
Throughout his career, Rabbi Hellman has been involved in all aspects of pastoral care and counseling with congregants of all ages, from creating exciting youth programs to visiting housebound seniors.

A native of St. Louis, Rabbi Hellman holds an undergraduate degree from Yeshiva University, where he received a BA degree in Mathematics and Physics and was valedictorian of his class. Rabbi Hellman received his smicha from Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS). He continued his rabbinic studies at the YU Kollel Elyon. Prior to college, Rabbi Hellman studied at Yeshiva Kerem B’Yavneh in Israel for two years.

Rabbi Hellman finds that he is continually inspired to transmit the beauty and kedusha of Torah, tefillah, and the mesorah through shiurim and divrei Torah as well as experientially. He believes that he and his wife, Ariella, and their four children have found a warm and welcoming community at the Young Israel of Brookline, and are excited to be leading the growth of the YIB community in the years to come.
