Our Young Israel Executive Board, who took office in July 2006, have taken on the responsibility of running the Young Israel at a challenging time in our history. We thank them all for stepping forward and volunteering their time and talent!

Lance A. KaweschVice President Lance first came to Boston as an undergraduate at Brandeis University, where he graduated with a BA in computer science. Lance and his wife Emily Stein joined our Young Israel in 1985. They have three children, Reuven, Natan and Elan, with whom they often travel to Israel. After a decade working in high tech, Lance attended BU Law School where he earned his JD, magna cum laude. Lance is the managing partner of Kawesch Law Group, LLC in Boston, where he specializes in corporate and securities law. |
Richard LupatkinVice President Originally from Englewood NJ, Richard joined our Young Israel in 1980 and has been a Board member since 1995. Both he and his wife Donna are actively involved in a variety of community organizations. A graduate of Brandeis and Boston Universities, Richard has a PhD in human development and is involved in geriatric care management at the Sage Counsel in Brookline, an organization that provides services to the elderly and their family members. They have three children and enjoy camping and kayaking. |
Ezra SivanVice President Originally from Providence, Ezra moved back to New England from California after detours in New York and Chicago. Having served as vice president of Congregation Emek Beracha in Palo Alto, Ezra with his wife Lisa and three children: Jack, Nina, and Jesse, have been living in Brookline since 2001. A sociologist by training, Ezra teaches at MIT's Sloan School of Management, and in his spare time, Ezra simply enjoys "chilling out." |
Jennifer WeinstockVice President Originally from Weston MA, Jennifer attended the University of Pennsylvania where she met her husband Amiel who is originally from Los Angeles. After graduating from Penn, Jennifer and Amiel relocated to the area where Amiel received his JD and LLM in Tax law from BU Law School. Living in Brookline for the past 10 years, Jennifer works at WGBH/Channel 2 in their Major Gifts Department. They have three young sons, Aaron, Jonah and Nathan. |
Aaron FeuersteinTreasurer As treasurer, Aaron Feuerstein is in charge of the financial health at the synagogue, and has been responsible for financial planning and fundraising, having organized committees to solicit contributions for our Building Fund. Aaron has been recognized nationallyin the press and has been profiled on TV's 60 Minutes for his unbelievable altruism to his workers, and long-standing service to our Young Israel and the Orthodox community. |
Ethan BergerFinancial Secretary An electrical engineer with a specialty in microprocessor design, Ethan came to us via Silicon Valley, and has been a member of our Young Israel since 2000. Prior to living in California for four years, Ethan served as vice president of the Orthodox kehillah in Durham, North Carolina while a student at Duke University. Ethan's primary responsibility as financial secretary is to handle the shul's accounts payables. He also serves as co-chair of our shul's seudah shlisheet program, and is frequently called upon to manage technical projects in our shul office. |
Emily SteinFinancial Secretary Emily was born in New Jersey and made aliyah at age 14 to Israel where she graduated with a degree in Egyptology from Hebrew University. Since returning to the US in 1984, Emily has worked in finance and administration at an East Asian book company, a magazine publisher and trade show producer, a high-tech speech recognition company, and two synagogues. No stranger to Young Israel, Emily served as our director of operations and office manager from 2001 to 2004. For the next year, Emily founded and ran Sweet Satisfaction, a kosher chocolate and candy store in Coolidge Corner. Currently, Emily serves as the bookkeeper at Temple Reyim in Newton, and provides bookkeeping services to private clients. |
Alan PollackRecording Secretary Originally from central PA, Alan first moved to the area to pursue an MS in Chemical Engineering at MIT. Having successfully completed the program, he decided to remain in the area, accepting a position with a local company involved in fuel cells and related research. Not only is Alan talented, but he's always been willing to give generously of his time to Young Israel activities and "pitch in" wherever needed. Alan's official task is to attend and take the minutes at board and general membership meetings. |
